THE GIFT

Prompt 1.

This prompt is designed to introduce you to each other and to support a culture of making and generosity. Each of you (students) has been randomly assigned a fellow studio-mate. over the week you are to make a gift. It is suggested that you spend some time with this person and get to know them better,. Have a zoom-coffee or hang out in person. Perhaps run and errand together or help either other set up your studio space. For informal activities as your aim is to open up with each other and develop a rapport and empathetic understanding.

Studio-Mate: Jennifer

Research:

This is Jennifer’s Instagram : Before stating the project, I studied Jennifer’s instagram page to gt a better understanding on who she is. I noticed some sketchs on her page, and some fabrics.

DETAILS BY STEPS:

STEP 01: travelled to Fabricland to select a few swatches that fit Jennifer’s style. I observed her utilisation of flowery elements from scrolling through her Instagram. To develop a swatch theme, I wanted to collect a variety of flower patterns and colour combinations.

STEP 02: the sketching process: Before beginning to create the swatches, I had to plan out how I wanted them to look, whether it was through colour or patterning.

STEP 03: the sketching process: Before beginning to create the swatches, I had to plan out how I wanted them to look, whether it was through colour or patterning.

STEP 04: Finalizing all 9 swatches and ensuring sure each swatch card includes the necessary information.

STEP 5: I added clip pins so Jennifer could hang them from the wall in her studio or use them as a decoration.

CONCLUSION:

In addition to getting to know my classmates better through this activity, I also had the chance to learn something new. I’ve always thought of myself as interested in fashion, but I never gave the materials and fabrics any thought.
