With respect to Media & Technology…

The work – academic and artistically – has never solely been about media and/or technology. Rather, it’s long been a line of inquiry into the human experience as it relates to, and is changed by, the above fields.

The mutual influence of media and tech on society as well as the resulting ethical quandaries and philosophical pondering, these are foundational, yet contextual, and the pulsing heart of the work has always been, and will remain for as long as it makes sense, commentary and critique of the human condition.

Within this, during this initial semester and the first thrust of work, I’m finding specific urgency and relevancy to confront and factor in silence within the age of noise. On the one hand, I am tasked by our increasingly mediated lives – the noise, if you will – and seek to interrupt, interrogate, agitate, and poke fun at the systems, figures, and movements buoying and advancing such. On the other, reactively, I seek some measure of silence, calm – and this work is in a more contemplative and meditative vein.

I can’t say where this all takes me – or even if I’m being led by research or practice. Frankly, I don’t feel I need to. At least not yet.

Instead, I’m going to keep riding my curiosity with one hand gripping the pommel while the other flails about, boots digging in while a white and wide grin gives proof to how it’s all so very worthwhile.
