Beds

Over the holiday, I read The Decision Between Us by John Paul Ricco. He talks a lot about beds, unmade beds as scenes of intimacy and of spacing. Around the same time that I was reading about beds, I acquired an old and uncomfortable mattress that turned out to be filled with four layers of foam. I’m now thinking about the bed as a body, and what makes the bed the bed (right now the mattress is without its cover, but is still a whole object, minus some foam layers). I’m also really interested in Bernard Faucon’s Rooms of Love, and the focus on beds sometimes with and sometimes without humans in them. Beds occupying rooms.
