Past Projects

Hello there, you’ve arrived to where some of my past projects live. Scroll down to see them, or jump directly to the descriptions with the links below.

Dominga

Hammocks are a traditional piece used in southeast Mexico as their primary sleeping and resting furniture, due to the hot and humid climate. This was the inspiration to make the woven seat, using the traditional way of woven hammocks, of this stool.
The thick wooden frame gives a sense of security in a rather light and minimal stool. All around Dominga is a stool thought to be easy to make in a traditional way by artisans.
The piece reminds an image of peacefulness and rest, activities usually done in Sundays, domingos in Spanish. This is where the name comes from. Dominga will receive either your legs as an ottoman or footstool for a relaxing pose, or you can sit on it and maybe read a book.

Félix Bar

This piece was commissioned to me by a young couple, who didn’t have enough storage space in their kitchen for all of their crockery.
It was custom made from walnut and black marble. The primary task was that the bar had a lot of storage space for the tableware, a wine fridge and glasses, while not looking unconventional in the TV room.

Maximiliano

This particular piece was designed by me, but made by wicker artisans in Tequisquiapan, Mexico.
Bookrests are a forgotten furniture piece in many cultures. Yet they were used for many years, not only aiding whilst reading but also displaying books that were worth showing, either by their fabulous pictures, or because of the meaning of their words. Thus wanting to be readable to any person who would visit.
The bookrest was made by combining wicker and brown felt, which wrapped a metallic structure. The felt is reinforced with wicker as well, giving it rigidity and a very peculiar aesthetic. Besides showcasing one book, also gives storage to a few other books, the felt helps to keep the dust away.

Topete Sofa

This particular project was done for the terrace of an apartment in the Polanco neighborhood in Mexico City. A large terrace that was almost the size of the indoors suite, it was perfect for entertainment.
The sofa is inspired by the famous 1950’s design of the Acapulco chair, the chairs are made from a metal structure and colorful PVC cords. The sofa set included a single seater and two love seats.

Paquidermo

A coat-hanger that mounts in a wall, to hang just about anything when arriving home. It’s name is given by the similarity of the form to an elephant’s ear.
Made to order by Designer Francisco Torres (Switzerland) and his French Mexican design studio DEAR for the exposition Variaciones de Aluminio (Aluminum Variations) at the Abierto Mexicano del Diseño 2014.
It is made from a laser cut single sheet of aluminum, finished with an electrostatic coating.

Martha

Small kitchens are a fact in many big cities such as Barcelona, Mexico City or Tokyo.
Martha is a multifunctional table, which serves the purpose of cooking and dining at the same time, with a marble countertop giving resistance and durability for prep and cooking tasks. In combination with a wood structure and dining table.
The featured dining table rotates 360 degrees so that Martha can be placed in many ways and in different areas no matter their distribution. It also has a two-way-open drawer to stow either your cooking utensils or dinnerware.

Antera

In Mexico City public drinking fountains couldn’t be found until not so long ago.
Atlahua, a company that had experience in making and installing drinking fountains in public indoor spaces, asked us to make a design so they could enter the government bidding for the fountains in Chapultepec.
I decided to focus in a modern, yet very functional approach where you could either fill up a bottle or drink directly. Also having space so that the government could showcase information such as maps or locations, very useful for visitors.

Aerodesign

Escudería Aerodesign CSF was a year round challenge that involved many complex obstacles.
The challenge was to participate in the SAE Aero-Design competition that is held yearly in Mexico, for that, the first task was to assemble a team of designers and engineers and get the knowledge to be recognized as a member of SAE International.

Mundana

Mundana Alameda is a mezcalería bar in downtown Mexico City.
Because of the specific characteristics Mundana needed a modern view, but without leaving the essence of typical cantinas, which mezcalerías come from. Also, one of the tasks was to maximize the space. Hexagon tables give more seating space without requiring much floor area. Stools and chairs were already purchased by the owners, so there was already a line of design I was supposed to follow.

Multipurpose Containers

First place at 2011 Workshop Multicampus Cátedra Luis Barragán.

For the workshop we were bound to rehabilitate the abandoned train station in the city of Toluca, Mexico.
When we went to see the place, we saw that not only the train station was abandoned, but also a lot of shipping containers. So we decided to design a park with cultural and commercial spaces.
My specific task was to modify the containers into itinerant and interchangeable modules so they could not only be useful in this city, but in others as well.
